Incident at Spot Lane Nature Reserve – 20th May 2025

The Parish Council is aware of a serious incident that took place on the evening of Tuesday 20th May 2025 at the bike track within Spot Lane Nature Reserve. 

A group of four young children, aged around 11, were approached by a larger group of older youths, believed to be approximately 14 years old. The younger children were reportedly threatened with violence and the potential theft of their bicycles. Disturbingly, there are reports indicating the possible presence of a knife during the incident.

Fortunately, the younger children acted quickly and managed to remove themselves from immediate danger, retreating to a nearby residence where a parent contacted the emergency services via 999 without delay.

Kent Police responded promptly, deploying officers to Mallards Park where the older group had reportedly gone. Other Officers also visited the younger children to take initial statements and offer support. We are grateful for the swift and professional response from the Police, who handled the matter with the utmost diligence. It has been confirmed that the older individuals involved are known to the authorities, with connections to both the Madginford and Downswood areas.

The Parish Council would like to take this opportunity to urge all residents: if you witness any antisocial or criminal behaviour—such as the use of catapults, illegal use of quad bikes on footpaths, or any activity causing fear or harm—please contact the Police immediately by calling 999. Do not delay or rely on social media posts in place of official reporting. Prompt action is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
