Going Plastic Free

Joining the Plastic Free Communities Initiative
At a recent Parish Council meeting, we were privileged to receive a compelling presentation on the environmental and community impact of single-use plastics. The discussion was not only informative—it was galvanising. It reminded us that even small parishes can play a meaningful role in shaping a more sustainable future.
In response, I am pleased to announce that our Parish Council has formally signed up to the Plastic Free Communities initiative, a nationwide movement led by Surfers Against Sewage. This marks a significant step in our commitment to environmental responsibility and civic leadership.
Details of the initiative and how you can get involved can be found here: Home - Plastic Free Communities
We have joined this initiative not simply as a symbolic gesture, but because we believe in the power of local action. Our parks, our public spaces, our heritage venues—all deserve to be protected from the creeping tide of plastic pollution. By reducing single-use plastics in our operations and encouraging local businesses, schools, and residents to do the same, we aim to foster a cleaner, greener, and more resilient community.
This decision aligns with our broader goals: to steward our environment with care, to uphold ethical governance, and to animate our parish values through practical, visible change. We invite all residents to join us in this journey—whether by rethinking daily habits, supporting plastic-free enterprises, or simply spreading the word.
Together, we can ensure that our parish not only preserves its past, but safeguards its future.
