Community Corner
Welcome to our Community Corner page! This is a page where any local events can be advertised free of charge - just let us know, well before the event, and we’ll advertise it here. Most events in Downswood happen at the Community Centre, but this is certainly not always the case and things often go on slightly further afield. If you’re looking for somewhere to go or want to know what sort of thing happens in and around Downswood then this is the place to look.
St Nicholas’ Church
Rev David Bond is the main point of contact for weddings, baptisms and funerals - he can be contacted on 01622 202239. The church would also like to recruit new bellringers - if you would like to learn this fascinating skill and keep this centuries-old tradition alive, please let the Church know.
Madginford WI
Madginford WI members, as the speaker was unable to attend, were treated to an unexpected fun, nonetheless very competitive, Beetle Drive.
Thanks were given to the volunteers for a successful WI stall at Bearsted & Thurnham Fayre; flowers were presented to Shirley Griffiths & Roz Cheesman. Plans were discussed for a 'Cavendish' Tea Party; Walks; Outings to Bruges and via City & Village Tours.
Some members participated in fresh air, exercise and much laughter at the Multiactivity Day at the Scouts' Hope Hill Centre. They sampled archery, rifle shooting, climbing and abseiling the 30ft high tower; bat and trap; crazy croquet and petanque.
A delightful August private viewing evening with refreshments, was spent at National Trust's Stoneacre at Otham, organized by Pam Garner.
At the next meeting - Thursday 08 September at 8.00pm in Madginford Hall, Egremont Road, Bearsted, there will be a 'Demonstration by Mick the Chef'. (October 13 - Jean Talboys - 'Perennial plants for continuous colour'.)
